Will We Have A White Christmas This Year?

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Rain is falling on Minnesota, just days before Christmas.

The wet weekend ushered in a rainy Monday morning, with clouds moving in from the southwest. Much of the snow that had blanketed Minnesota from a frigid November has now been washed away by a mild December.

Yet, there’s still a chance of a white Christmas.

Forecaster Kylie Bearse says Monday’s rain should change to a wintry mix by the afternoon before turning to snow overnight. Communities could see anywhere from 1-3 inches of snow.

The snow may continue into Tuesday, helping to secure that holiday look. Or, it could turn to rain, and wash away any accumulation that happens overnight.

Traditionally, Minnesotans tend to experience a white Christmas, which is defined as having at least an inch of snow on the ground on Christmas Day.
