MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Police are trying to get the word out in one Coral Gables neighborhood after a man was bitten by a crocodile over the weekend – a first in Florida.
The man was visiting friends in the 1300 block of Lugo Avenue when he decided to go for a swim around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
As he got into the brackish water of a canal a croc, believed to be eight to nine foot in length, latched onto him. He struggled and eventually broke free. He was taken to South Miami Hospital where he was treated for multiple lacerations to his arm, shoulder and back.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said a second person, a woman, was also in the canal at the time of the attack. They said she too was injured, but didn’t specify how.
